School Spirit and Fundraisers

Fund Raising

In today's economy there is often a need to supplement school budgets with independent fund raising activities. Sometimes there are efforts to raise funds to support the general budget, at other times there are specific need to support a particular program or activity. Whatever the need there are several approaches that can be used to raise money.

One of the most common approaches is to sell an item for a profit. There are many sources for turn-key solutions from popcorn sales to catalog sales with candles and Christmas ornaments.

Another alternative is to produce a branded product using the school's name, logo or mascot. By offering a product with a high perceived value and a unique brand you can generate renewed interest by your supporters. There is some risk with this approach in that the cost of the goods to be sold must be covered with the first sales before a profit is realized.

Kids and parents alike love showing their school pride with logo items. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Shirts or caps
  • Lanyards
  • Scarves
  • Snap Bracelets
  • Flip Flops
  • Sweatshirts
  • Waterbottles
  • Notebooks

Eliminate Risk with Community and Business Support

A great way to generate even remove the risk of a product sale is to seek underwriters for the project by offering advertising space. Some examples that work well are stadium seat cushions and drinkware. For these activities the sponsoring group seeks local advertisers to sponsor the project. Since all of the upfront costs are covered 100% of the product sales contribute to the success of the project.

Some was to raise funds by letting local business and organizations show their support include

  • posting banners at school functions and events.
  • selling stadium seat cushions or drink cups pad for by a group of advertisers.
